ADHD Assessment & Care
At AOA Clinic, we make ADHD care straightforward and accessible. We connect individuals aged 16 years and over with independent providers who offer personalised, evidence-based assessments, treatment plans, and ongoing support, helping ensure consistent and practical care across Australia.
Real-World Executive Function
Executive function is measured where life happens.

Home & Life Admin
Bills, appointments, routines, paperwork, household tasks and daily organisation.

Health & Wellbeing
Sleep, exercise, medication routines, self-care and maintaining healthy habits.
Clinical Assessment
We explore real-world functioning across settings — not simply performance on isolated cognitive tasks.
The best measure of executive functioning is how it affects your everyday life.
The ADHD assessment process involves 3 appointments.
1st GP Appointment
Review of medical history and assessment planning.
2nd GP Appointment

Additional ASD diagnostic clarification appointment
If Autism Spectrum Disorder is suspected as a possible contributor to executive dysfunction after the psychiatrist appointment, an additional appointment may be recommended.
ASD Diagnostic Clarification Appointment
This appointment is completed with the same psychiatrist and is used to clarify whether the patient meets DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder and, if so, the appropriate level of support.
A comprehensive report is provided whether or not diagnostic criteria are met.

This appointment is only required when further assessment is clinically indicated.
AOA Clinic provides ADHD assessment appointments through telehealth for adults in Australia, where clinically appropriate. This can allow patients to access assessment and follow-up care without needing to attend an in-person clinic.
Telehealth appointments are available
Telehealth appointments may be suitable for adults seeking assessment for symptoms such as inattention, difficulty with organisation, forgetfulness, emotional dysregulation, procrastination, or difficulties completing tasks.
Suitability for telehealth depends on individual circumstances, clinical complexity and practitioner assessment.

Can a GP assess ADHD?
In Australia, GPs may play an important role in the ADHD assessment process. A GP may review medical history, assess symptoms, coordinate referrals and assist with ongoing care. Diagnosis and treatment planning may also involve a psychiatrist, depending on the model of care and individual clinical needs.
What is involved in an ADHD assessment?
An ADHD assessment may involve review of current symptoms, medical and mental health history, childhood history, daily functioning, structured assessment tools and collateral information where appropriate. The exact process can vary depending on the clinic, practitioner and individual circumstances.
Can ADHD be assessed online?
ADHD may be assessed through telehealth where clinically appropriate. Online assessments usually involve secure video appointments, review of relevant history, structured assessment processes and follow-up appointments to discuss findings and treatment recommendations.
Do adults need a referral for an ADHD assessment?
Referral requirements vary depending on the clinic, practitioner and Medicare rebate pathway. Some services may allow patients to book directly, while others may require a GP referral. Patients should check the clinic’s referral and rebate requirements before booking.
